Test Drive College Edition is Ready!

We are very excited to announce that our College Edition of Test Drive Your Future is completed and already on Amazon!

We call Test Drive Your Future “The book we wish we’d had before declaring a college major, choosing a career, or spending any money on college!” The College Edition contains the same “test drive process” as the original edition, but is written specifically for college students. The book is in a smaller layout (the High School Edition is a workbook format) with free access to the Mile Marker Expansion Pack online.

It’s time to Test Drive Your Future if 1) You have yet to declare a major or aren’t sure you’ve declared the “right” one; 2) You don’t have the first clue which career path is for you or you’re having a hard time choosing between one or more possible careers; or 3) You want to make the best career choice for your investment of time and money, yet also feel passionate about that career.

Organizing a Corporation

Seth Godin recently published a post on his blog about how companies should consider organizing for joy rather than for maximum efficiency, and we couldn’t agree more. Here he says:

These are the companies that give their people the freedom (and yes, the expectation) that they will create, connect and surprise. These are the organizations that embrace someone who makes a difference, as opposed to searching for a clause in the employee handbook that was violated.

This is what we are looking for from A Little Bit More Fun, Inc — to break out of the box of traditional corporate “more is better” organizational structure, and break into a new paradigm where creativity, fun, and contribution to the whole are our chief motivating factors.

A Smokin’ Acupuncture Treatment

In all my years of doing acupuncture, I’ve never once set off a smoke alarm. That may not surprise you, because you would naturally assume that there’s no reason for needles and smoke to mix. But we learned a very special technique at our school called flaming ginger moxa. Moxa basically means any sort of heat therapy, although very often moxa uses the herb mugwort (artemesia vulgaris).

Ginger moxa is a great treatment for sore muscles and it feels divine! It’s a little hard to describe , but basically it consists of a cotton ball which is slathered with a special salve, which is clamped to a slice of ginger. The cotton ball is lit and the ginger is rubbed along the back. The goal is to relax the patient without burning them with the flaming cotton ball.

That was my goal, to not burn my patient, so I shut of the overhead fan (if you are an acupuncturist you are also probably wondering why we are even using a fan- I assure you it creates a very calm breeze and is highly necessary with the heat of our area). But in turning off the fan, even with the windows open, the smoke alarm went off and brought my comatose  patient to a startling alertness.

Unfortunately the smoke alarms are 12 feet high, which would become problem #2, because even in standing on the massage table, I am not tall enough to reach it! Luckily my very forgiving and very tall patient was able to reach it and stop the incessant beeping. A good lesson that I shall do my best to never repeat, but it made the list of new things because it did make life a little bit more fun, if only later when we were laughing about it!

Meeting founders of Magic Carpet Rides

The owners of Magic Carpet Rides

The owners of Magic Carpet Rides

We had the privilege of getting together with Markus and Laura, the owners and founders of Magic Carpet Rides, a gap year organization that takes high school grads to Guatemala for an 8 month cultural immersion experience. Lucky for us, they are staying on Kauai during the summer as they prepare for the upcoming gap year excursion.

Our publishing company Inspiration Publications awarded a Gap Year Scholarship to one of their students this year, named Bill Doerrfeld, from Issaquah WA. For more info about the scholarship, you can visit www.wheresthemap.com. To learn more about Magic Carpet Rides, you can visit www.magiccarpetrides.org.

We hope to create a partnership with them where their students can get the most out of Where’s the Map during their gap year to help them uncover what they are passionate about for their future college and career paths. It was wonderful to connect with Markus and Laura, as we share a similar passion to help young adults through experiential learning. We hope to make it to Guatemala to check in on Magic Carpet Rides this year!
